ASSISTANT INSPECTOR GENERAL (Inspector General's Office)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an ABA accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate degree and admission to the Illinois Bar (or another state bar having reciprocity with Illinois), supplemented by three years of legal experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, provided the law license requirement is met.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
An applicant must be an actual resident of the City of Chicago. Proof of residency will be required at the time of employment.

2010 STARTING RATE OF PAY:
$97,164 per year
DUTIES:
- Under direction of Senior Management, the Assistant Inspector General provides legal counsel regarding all substantive issues that arise from the Office's operations.
- Provides advice on legal issues related to internal operations and criminal and adminsitrative investigations including issues concerning local, state, and federal laws, statutes and contracts.
- Serves as primary contact on matters relating to the Local Records Act, the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, and discovery in civil and administrative matters.
- Provides legal counsel on topics such as: labor and employment law, constitutional issues such as search and seizure law, and the interpretation and enforcement of contracts, statutes and ordinances.
- Advises the Director of Investigations and Chief Investigators on strategic and legal investigative matters, including investigative techniques and the strength of evidence obtained.
- Conducts interviews and document reviews related to investigations.
- Writes and edits reports summarizing investigative/monitoring findings, and outlining disciplinary, operational and policy recommendations
- Provides advice and direction to the Audit Team. Drafts and edits compliance audit reports.
- Performs legal research; writes and edits legal memoranda on issues related to all aspects of Office operation. Prepares affidavits and other documents for criminal, civil or administrative actions.
- Coordinates with outside law enforcement entities as appropriate.
- Provides training on legal issues as requested by the Inspector General or First Deputy Inspector General.
- Performs related duties as required.
